Lexus LFA sold out in Japan

Bizarre as it may seem, even while deep in the depths of a recession as Japan churns through its “second lost decade,” the Mainichi Shinbun is reporting that nearly 500 domestic pre-orders have been taken for the ¥37.5M hypercar.

Keen observers will remember that Toyota is set to lose money on each of the 500 cars it plans to produce, and as often been pointed out, the LFA is not precisely the best value for money, as good as it may be.

A search on global pre-orders has yielded no results, so it remains to be seen whether the Lexus will be able to set the world alight in the same way it has encouraged strapped Japanese pocketbooks to open.

Since the current allotment of LFA’s for domestic consumption is 170, I would not be surprised to see that edged upward with such a strong demand from home.
